Too late to back out now
Tonight started out perfect.
Nothing could be more perfect than rocking the house in the de Jong Theater
with Vocal Point. But now you’re probably wondering why it only started
perfect. That’s because it didn’t end as great as it began. Let me start from
the beginning. A few days ago my roommates were helping me come up with a date
idea when one of them suggested going to Pizza Pie CafĂ© on Tuesday because it’s
karaoke night. But that gave us a strict time table to find a date. The
following night a friend of ours, Alex, was playing cards with us when one
roommate told him about my project. So they unofficially asked him to go with
us. Anyone who knows Alex knows how fun and easy going he is so he gladly
agreed.
That brings us to tonight. Since Alex
was taken, and the only other guy who visits our apartment regularly is AJ, I
had to ask AJ out. And Tuesday was quickly approaching. So Alex and AJ came
over for card games as usual, but the subject never came up. In fact, I
couldn’t say a single word to AJ because he spent the whole night flirting with
my roommate, Cara. As curfew came I panicked. Well, let’s face it; I had been
panicking all night. The ball of nerves in my stomach had grown until it was a
monster eating my insides. At the last possible moment I pulled Alex aside. I
can’t recall what I actually said but I think it was something like this,
“Remember how we talked about going to Pizza Pie. Well… will you go with me?
Officially?” Alex, being Alex, was very sweet about it and seemed flattered
that I would ask him.
Meanwhile, AJ was already out the
door when I yelled his name. If I have to go on a date then so does Cara. We
are each others wing-women; when one person goes down, we take the other with
us. So there Cara was and had no choice but to ask him to Pizza Pie. And that
is how I got a date for Tuesday and a couple to double with. My traitorous
stomach is still making me nauseous but it’s too late to do anything about it
now.
