1:00 on Wednesday morning and I
can’t sleep. Why? You ask. Because I just had one of the best dates ever. I’m
not a complete hermit so this wasn’t the best because it was the only. Honestly
it was the best because of who I was with. I know that sounds cliché but it is
true. Alex and AJ visit us enough so we didn’t have to ask those awkward
what-is-your-favorite-color questions. Actually… we did. But it was only
because Cara had just taken a huge bite and her date was testing her to see if
she’d talk with her mouth full.
As I mentioned in my earlier post,
we decided to go to Pizza Pie Café and sing karaoke. After much back and forth
mind changing Cara and I finally agreed to stick with our original plan. At
Pizza Pie we had a quick battle of “Who Gets to Pay” but I argued louder and
eventually Alex had to surrender. I won’t bore you with the play by play of who
said what but I was laughing all night. Unfortunately the karaoke room was
really crowded so we only stayed for two songs but we sat close enough that we
could sing along THROUGHOUT THE NIGHT.
I want to mention that this date
was so much fun and only cost about 16 dollars. Being a college student has
really taught me to manage my money so I want to point out that we had hours of
fun without it costing and arm and a leg. In fact, this was probably one of the
best bargain dates considering Alex had ten pieces of pizza and AJ ate 5 in
under… probably 8 minutes.
The next thing I want to bring up
about my date is the doorstep scene. I know that this is the moment most people
dread and probably a big reason why they don’t date more. I’ve been there.
Trying to figure out where to put your hands for a hug or how to reject or
accept a kiss can cause panic attacks. I think the only criticism I could have
about this doorstep goodbye was that a friend of theirs came to visit with us
without realizing it was a date, so he was left standing there while we hugged
goodbye. But it was a short, sweet hug. I tell you this because even if you
don’t have a major crush on your date you can hug them goodbye without it being
romantic.
I know that the what if game is a
time waster but I want you to know that if I hadn’t gone on this date I would
have spent my night writing my Rhetorical Analysis paper then turning in early.
But instead I am here; bouncing off the wall from too much pink lemonade. To
think, just a few hours ago I was sick with worry thinking about all of the
things that could go horribly wrong but it turned out terrific. Except for me
accidentally running a red light and AJ being a backseat driver, it was overall
a huge success. I have conquered one of my biggest fears so I have no doubt
that you can too.
